Why Visit Akrotiri?
Located in the south of Santorini, Akrotiri is one of the most significant prehistoric settlements in Europe and a well-designed archeological site. This ancient city existed before the volcanic eruption around 1600 B.C. Akrotiri is often referred to as the "Minoan Pompeii,” as it was found mostly intact under ash in 1866, with excavations starting in 1967. The site has revealed numerous artifacts, including decorative pieces, tools, and well-structured buildings, some reaching three floors. Visitors can view Minoan sanctuaries and elaborate frescoes during their tour.
