Why Visit Akrotiri?

Located in the south of the island of Santorini, Akrotiri is one of the most significant prehistoric settlements in Europe. The city was inhabited before the volcanic eruption around 1600 B.C. and was uncovered in 1866, with excavations starting in 1967. Findings include buildings, tools, and decorative elements, some buildings reaching three floors, offering insight into the urban layout. Visitors will also see Minoan sanctuaries and frescoes.
