Tour Details

At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in Plaza del Ayuntamiento to begin this underground tour of Toledo. We will set off to explore a lesser-known side of the City of the Three Cultures, navigating hidden spaces beneath its historic streets.

The first stop will be the Cenizal Arab Baths, where we’ll delve into Toledo’s Muslim past and learn about daily life in the Middle Ages. This former hammam features an ingenious heating system, known as the hypocaust, that maintained warm temperatures.

Next, we will visit the Caballel Arab Baths, another remarkable example of Islamic heritage preserved below the city. Here, we’ll explore the social and cultural significance of these bathing spaces in medieval Toledo.

We will then head to the Pozo del Salvador, an 11th-century cistern that once belonged to a mosque, now occupied by the Church of El Salvador. This hidden structure provides an intriguing insight into the city’s layered religious history.

Our route continues to the Casa del Judío, an underground space that reflects Toledo’s Jewish heritage and the cultural coexistence that shaped the city for centuries.

Finally, we’ll step back in time with a visit to the Roman Baths of Toledo, located near the Cathedral. Discovered in 1986, this archaeological site reveals insights into daily life during Roman times along the banks of the Tagus River.

After approximately 2 hours exploring these remarkable subterranean spaces, we will conclude the tour in Plaza de Zocodover, at the heart of Toledo’s historic center.
