Liébana Monastery Pilgrimage
At 9:30 am, pickup will be at the Pabellón Municipal La Habana Vieja in Torrelavega to travel to Western Cantabria by minibus. After approximately 1 hour, arrival in Potes is expected, known for its picturesque scenery.
Upon reaching Potes, instructions will be provided to walk to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery, which is a 40-minute walk. Here, you can obtain the Lebaniega pilgrimage credential and view a fragment of the True Cross. A daily pilgrim's mass occurs at midday, during which the True Cross, or Lignum Crucis, will be blessed and can be touched.
After mass, a visit to the San Miguel Hermitage, a small Romanesque church 5 minutes from the monastery, is suggested. A viewpoint nearby offers views of the Picos de Europa. Participants will reconvene in front of the hermitage for the return to Potes by minibus.
In Potes, enjoy a lebaniego stew to regain energy post-walk. You will have 2 hours of free time to explore Potes and visit key sites like the Casa del Oso Pardo and Infantado Tower.
The journey will continue to the village of San Sebastián de Garabandal, where you can visit Los Pinos, associated with Marian apparitions. Finally, the return to Torrelavega is scheduled for 7 pm.
