Guided Tour of Ibare-Mamoré Protected Area

Your day begins with a pickup at your hotel in Trinidad at 8 am, as we head towards Puerto Ballivián, the entrance to the Ibare-Mamoré Municipal Protected Area.

After traveling 5 miles (8 kilometers), we'll reach Puerto Ballivián. Board our boat for a two-hour exploration along the Ibaré River, commonly referred to as the River of the Birds.

As we navigate the waters, we’ll arrive at the confluence where the Ibaré meets the mighty Mamoré River. This journey will include stops at Loma Suárez and the community of San Carlos, where you'll witness the stunning Mapajo natural monument. We’ll enjoy a leisurely walk through tropical crops featuring yucca, syringa, and banana trees.

Throughout our excursion, keep an eye out for the rich biodiversity of the area, including endemic Amazonian species such as the Manguari heron, the bato, and the river heron.

After exploring, our journey continues to the mouth of the Mamoré River. Here, we can observe the charming freshwater dolphins and take a refreshing swim in the inviting waters.

Following this, we'll enjoy a picnic lunch on the boat, before boarding our bus for the return trip to Trinidad, where you’ll arrive at your hotel around 4 pm.

2-Day Tour Option

For those opting for the extended experience, an additional day of discovery in the Ibare-Mamoré Municipal Protected Area awaits.

Post-lunch on the boat, we'll head back to visit the community of San Carlos. There, you will be treated to a warm welcome at the home of Florencio, a local farmer, who will serve us a hearty dinner of fish or dried meat. Following this, we will venture into the heart of the Bolivian Amazon to witness diverse wildlife and spend a memorable night camping under the stars.

The following morning, after a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off for a hike around the picturesque Usuni Lagoon, relishing the vibrant scenery and engaging in sport fishing. Enjoy the fruits of your labor at lunch before we head back to Puerto Ballivián for our return journey to your hotel, with arrival planned for the afternoon.
