San Ignacio de Moxos Day Trip

Experience one of the earliest Jesuit missions established in Bolivia with our excursion to San Ignacio de Moxos. Choose between a day or an extended 2-day visit to immerse yourself in the attractions of this captivating town.

Day Excursion to San Ignacio de Moxos

Your journey begins with a pick-up at 6 am from your Trinidad hotel, followed by a scenic drive towards San Ignacio de Moxos, a historic town located in southern Bolivia.

Upon arrival, we'll enjoy breakfast before embarking on our exploration of this former Jesuit settlement.

Our first stop will be the Moxos Museum, where you'll delve into the rich folklore of the region. Next, we’ll visit the Musical Archive, an essential establishment that showcases rare artifacts, including musical scores from the 18th century.

We'll then proceed to the San Ignacio Church, which the Jesuits constructed in the 17th century upon their arrival in the region. Here, you can admire the distinct Jesuit architectural features, including its expansive atrium encircled by elegant columns. Inside, the church is adorned with canvases illustrating narratives from both the Old and New Testaments.

After our church visit, we will enjoy lunch at a local eatery. Once we've dined, we will continue to the Cabildo Indigenal, the governing body overseeing the local community.

A visit to a luthier's workshop will allow you to see a craftsman at work, turning wood into exquisite pieces of art. Our final destination for the day will be the School of Music, home to a choir and orchestra, and the renowned Moxos Ensemble.

After a full day of discovery in this enchanting town, we will return you to your hotel in the evening.

Extended 2-Day Tour

If a single day does not suffice, consider opting for the 2-day tour of San Ignacio de Moxos. Following the activities outlined previously, you will visit the Turino handicraft centre to observe the process of creating traditional crafts and will spend the night in a cozy hotel within town.

The next morning begins with breakfast at your hotel, followed by a stroll to the Isireri Lagoon. Here, we will share the enigmatic legend associated with the lagoon. You will then have some time to relax and swim before we make our way back to San Ignacio for lunch. Afterwards, we will embark on our return journey to Trinidad, where you will be dropped off at your hotel in the afternoon.
