Chan Chan Day Trip & Artisanal Fishing in Huanchaco

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Trujillo for our day trip to Chan Chan and Huanchaco, located in northeast Peru.

We'll first head to Huanchaco, about 30 minutes from Trujillo. Here, we will visit the beach to observe fishermen using caballito de totora reed boats, a tradition still practiced today. You will have the opportunity to try this fishing technique.

Next, we will visit the huachaques or totora reed farms to learn about this aquatic plant's uses. Then, we will go to the Church of the Virgen del Socorro, which offers a view of Huanchaco Bay.

A lunch break will include a two-course meal with a local drink at a nearby restaurant.

After lunch, we will explore the Chan Chan citadel, the largest mud city in the world. We will visit the pre-Columbian ruins of the Nik Ann Palace, view its reliefs depicting birds and fish, and learn about the city’s secret passages used during invasions.

We will conclude our trip and return to Trujillo by 4 pm.
