Chan Chan Day Trip & Artisanal Fishing in Huanchaco

At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Trujillo and set off for a day trip to Chan Chan and Huanchaco, located in northeast Peru.

We'll head to Huanchaco, just 30 minutes from Trujillo. First, we'll visit the beach to observe fishermen using caballito de totora reed watercraft. You will have the opportunity to try this traditional fishing technique.

Next, we'll visit huachaques, totora reed farms, to learn about the uses and benefits of this aquatic South American plant. We'll then head to the Church of the Virgen del Socorro to enjoy views of Huanchaco Bay.

Lunch will be at a nearby restaurant where you'll have a two-course meal with a local drink.

After lunch, we'll visit the Chan Chan citadel, the largest mud city in the world and the biggest adobe city in the Americas. We’ll explore the pre-Columbian ruins of the Nik Ann Palace and its reliefs depicting birds and fish, and learn about the secret passages used for escape during Inca attacks.

We'll then make our way back to Trujillo, arriving at 4 pm.
