Unveil the story behind the Lady of Cao, a religious leader who ruled Peru over 2,000 years ago on our El Brujo Day Trip. Discover the role of women in the pre-Columbian era and see where she exercised her power.

El Brujo Day Trip

At 10:20 am, we will meet on Jirón Obregoso Street and set off for El Brujo and its antechamber Magdalena de Cao, located 37 miles (60 kilometers) north of Trujillo.

Upon arrival in this small village, dating back to the Chimú culture, our guide will explain the history of the Lady of Cao. The discovery of her remains verified the significant roles women held in this civilization.

In Magdalena de Cao, we will see the monument to the Lady of Cao, traditional handicraft and pottery shops, and sample the typical Inca drink, chicha de añejo.

Next, we will visit the El Brujo Archaeological Site, significant for its connection to the Lady of Cao and five other civilizations. We will tour its ceremonial sites, including the tables used by shamans and the Huaca Cao, the pyramid containing the tomb of the regional ruler.

We will also visit the museum that displays the mummified Lady of Cao and the jewellery found within her tomb, which includes semi-precious stones and gold and silver beads.

After our complex visit, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant and then return to Trujillo, dropping you off at the Plaza de Armas by 4 pm.
