El Brujo Day Trip
At 10:20 am, we will meet on Jirón Obregoso Street and depart for El Brujo and Magdalena de Cao, located 37 miles (60 kilometers) north of Trujillo.
Upon arriving in the village with roots in the Chimú culture, our guide will share the history of the Lady of Cao. The discovery of her remains confirmed that women held significant positions in this civilization, challenging previous beliefs that only men had power in ancient Peru.
In Magdalena de Cao, we will visit the monument to the Lady of Cao and explore traditional handicraft and pottery shops. Tasting chicha de añejo, a typical Inca drink made from corn, will also be part of the experience.
Next, we will head to the El Brujo Archaeological Site, crucial in northern Peru's history and home to 6 different civilizations. The tour will include ceremonial sites, tables used by shamans, and the Huaca Cao, which contains the tomb of the region's ruler.
We will also visit the museum housing the mummified Lady of Cao and the jewellery found in her tomb, including a collection of semi-precious stones and gold and silver beads.
After our visit, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. We will then return to Trujillo, with drop-off in Plaza de Armas at 4 pm.
