Did you know that Tunisia is home to one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in the world? Discover it on this guided tour of the historic towns of Monastir and El Jem.

Monastir & El Jem Tour Itinerary

At 8 am on the day of your tour, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Tunis, and you'll set off on the three-hour drive to the archaeological site of El Jem. This site features some of the most impressive Roman remains in Africa.

The first stop will be the Amphitheatre of El Jem, one of the best-preserved Roman stone ruins in the world and the third biggest amphitheatre after the Coliseum in Rome and the Verona Arena. After exploring the venue, which had a capacity of over thirty thousand people, you will learn about El Djem's history and its origins as a Carthaginian settlement. Around 1 pm, you will enjoy a typical lunch before continuing to Monastir.

Upon arriving in Monastir, you'll tour the center, starting with the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the final resting place of the first President of Tunisia. Next, visit the Ribat of Monastir, a historic fortress from the 8th century, which offers views over the Mediterranean. After your guided tour of Monastir, you will return to Tunisia, concluding your tour around 4 pm.
