Did you know that Tunisia is home to one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in the world? Discover it on this guided tour of the historic towns of Monastir and El Jem.

Monastir & El Jem Tour Itinerary

At 8 am, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Tunis for a three hour drive to the archaeological site of El Jem. There, you will see the Amphitheatre of El Jem, one of the best preserved Roman ruins globally and the third largest amphitheatre after the Coliseum in Rome and the Verona Arena.

After exploring the amphitheatre, you will learn about El Djem’s history and pre-Roman origins as a Carthaginian settlement. Around 1 pm, you will enjoy a typical lunch before traveling to Monastir, located a little over an hour away.

In Monastir, your tour includes a visit to the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the final resting place of Tunisia's first President. You will also tour the Ribat of Monastir, a historic fortress built in the 8th century. From this site, you will gain views of the Mediterranean and understand the strategic importance of the location. The Ribat has served as a filming location for Monty Python's Life of Brian.

The tour concludes with your return to Tunisia at around 4 pm.
