Did you know that Tunisia is home to one of the largest Roman amphitheatres in the world? Discover it on this guided tour of the historic towns of Monastir and El Jem.

Monastir & El Jem Tour Itinerary

At 8 am on the day of your tour, your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Tunis, and you'll begin a three-hour drive to the archaeological site of El Jem, known for impressive Roman remains in Africa.

Upon arrival, your first stop will be the Amphitheatre of El Jem, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins globally, and the third largest amphitheatre after the Coliseum in Rome and the Verona Arena. After exploring this ancient venue, which could accommodate over thirty thousand people, you will learn about El Djem's history and its origins as a Carthaginian settlement.

At around 1 pm, you will enjoy a typical lunch before proceeding to Monastir, located a little over an hour away.

In Monastir, your tour will include the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba, the final resting place of Tunisia's first President. You will also visit the Ribat of Monastir, a historic fortress built in the 8th century, offering views over the Mediterranean and insight into historical maritime control. This site has also been featured in films like Monty Python's Life of Brian.

Following your guided tour, you will return to Tunisia, concluding your tour at around 4 pm.
