Explore the highest and largest salt desert in the world on this 2-day trip to the Salar de Uyuni, located at 5,000 metres (16,404 feet) above sea level.
Description
Day 1
We will pick you up from your hotel in Uyuni to begin the tour. Our first stop is the Train Cemetery, where a guide will explain the history of the abandoned trains from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Next, we visit the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt desert at almost 11,000 square kilometres (4247 square miles). Key attractions include Colchani, salt piles, and the first hotel made of salt, which is now a museum.
Lunch will be served in the salt desert, providing an experience of Bolivian gastronomy amid the stunning landscape. Afterward, we hike around Isla Incahuasi, home to giant cacti reaching up to 10 metres (32 feet).
The day concludes with a sunset view, followed by a return to our hotel around 7 pm.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will visit the colonial Iglesia de Tomave, a notable example of baroque architecture. This church has historical significance as it sheltered Bolivian troops during the War of the Pacific.
Next, we relax at the Saruvo hot springs. After this, we will visit Laguna K'asilla and Laguna Verde.
After lunch, we will return to Uyuni, arriving around 6 pm, concluding the 2-day tour.
