Travel to Castellón province to explore the medieval town of Morella and Peñíscola, learning about the history of Pope Luna.

Description

At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your chosen meeting point in central Valencia and head north towards Morella. The journey takes over two hours, following the beautiful coastline until we reach this walled, hill-top town.

We will stroll along the steep cobblestone streets, stopping at local craft stalls and ending at the historic castle atop the town, which dates back to the 13th century and was once visited by El Cid Campeador. After touring the castle, you will have free time to explore Morella further and try local cuisine.

After lunch, we will travel east to Peñíscola, where we will discuss the origins of this historical city and Pope Luna's controversial role in Spain's religious history.

Upon arrival, we will first visit the castle located on a hilltop by the shore, used as a palace and personal library by Pope Luna, Antipope Benedict XIII. We will then explore the old town of Peñíscola, which features Islamic, Roman, and Templar architecture, and follow the outline of the old city wall.

After a full day of exploration, we will return to Valencia and drop you off at your selected meeting point.
