Travel to the province of Castellón and explore the medieval town of Morella and Peñíscola, where you'll learn about the history of Pope Luna.
Description
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your selected meeting point in central Valencia and head north towards Morella, traveling parallel to the coastline for just over two hours. Morella is a hill-top town with medieval architecture.
We will explore the cobblestone streets and stop at local craft stalls, concluding at the historic castle that dominates the town. This 12th-century Islamic fortress played a significant role for the Crown of Aragon, and we will enjoy a traditional Morellana meal afterwards.
Post-lunch, we will proceed to Peñíscola. During the trip, we will discuss the origins of this historical city and its association with Pope Luna, also known as Antipope Benedict XIII.
Upon arrival, we will first visit the castle situated on the shore, where Pope Luna resided. The tour will continue in the old town of Peñíscola, showcasing Islamic, Roman, and Templar architecture, following the outline of the old city wall.
After a full day of exploration, we will return to Valencia and drop you off at your chosen meeting point.
