Travel to the province of Castellón to explore the medieval town of Morella and Peñíscola, learning about the history of Pope Luna.
Description
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your chosen meeting point in central Valencia and head north towards Morella. The journey will take just over two hours alongside the coastline. Morella is a medieval town known for its walled structure.
You will walk through steep cobblestone streets and stop at local craft stalls. The visit concludes at the historic castle that overlooks the town. The castle, a 13th-century Islamic fortress, is significant for the Crown of Aragon. After touring the castle, you will have free time to explore Morella and sample local cuisine.
Post-lunch, we will proceed to Peñíscola, where we will discuss the origins of the city and Pope Luna, a controversial historical figure. We will visit the castle on the hilltop which served as his palace and library.
The tour continues in the old town of Peñíscola, featuring Islamic, Roman, and Templar architecture and the remnants of the old city wall. After a full day of exploration, we will return to Valencia and drop you off at your selected meeting point.
