Valencia was home to the Gremi de Velluters, producers of silk velvet. The silk industry began with Genoese artisans and flourished in the 15th century, leading to a period of wealth and splendor. The Silk Museum showcases the history of this trade, including the discovery, breeding of worms, and silk production on looms. Valencia had almost 5000 looms. Visitors will admire the tools and machines used in silk production and view samples of silk velvet and traditional costumes.
Museum Timetables
The Silk Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm, and Sundays and holidays from 10 am to 2:30 pm.
Special Hours in April & May
On Sundays, April 9, 16, 23, and 30, the museum is open from 10 am to 7 pm.On Mondays, April 10, 17, and 24, the museum is open from 10 am to 2:30 pm.On Monday, May 1, the museum is open from 10 am to 2:30 pm.
