Explore the largest neighborhood in Venice and discover its charms with this tour of the Castello district. The area is known for housing the city's old canal shipyard.

Castello Neighbourhood Tour

At the scheduled time, we will meet at Campo de la Maddalena to begin our tour of Castello.

During the guided tour, we will see the two faces of Castello, from its tourist areas to its humble streets. We will learn about the neighborhood's heyday in the 13th century, linked to the Arsenale, which became the largest naval complex in Europe.

The walk will take us to the façade of the Basilica of St. John and St. Paul, the largest church in Venice, and discuss the legend of its location as envisioned by Jacopo Tiepol, the leader of the Republic of Venice.

The guided tour includes a visit to one of the most beautiful bookstores in Venice. We will also see the parish of Santa Maria Formosa, the Scuola Grande di San Marco school, and other iconic buildings of Castello.

Additionally, we will visit the Doge's Palace, a significant monument that has served various governmental purposes.

The tour concludes at via Garibaldi after approximately 1.5-2 hours of sightseeing.
