Palazzo delle Prigioni Tour
At the agreed time we'll meet at the entrance gate of the Palazzo delle Prigioni, located on the Riva degli Schiavoni, next to the Doge's Palace. Ready to embark on a visit to the ancient prisons of Venice?
On this tour, we'll visit the three floors of the palace, built in the 16th century. It was designed by the same architect as the Rialto Bridge.
During the route, we'll see the torture chambers and cells, learning about the lives of prisoners. Casanova escaped from one of these cells; details of his escape will be shared during the tour.
The guide will discuss the legends surrounding the 'Prison Palace' and the significant decisions made by the Council of Ten, a key governing body of the Republic of Venice from 1310 to 1797.
After 45 minutes of uncovering the mysteries of this old Venetian prison, we'll conclude the tour with our guide.
