Palazzo delle Prigioni Tour
At the agreed time, we'll meet at the entrance gate of the Palazzo delle Prigioni, located on Riva degli Schiavoni next to the Doge's Palace. The tour covers three floors of the palace, a Venetian building from the 16th century, designed by the same architect behind the Rialto Bridge.
During the visit, we'll explore the torture chambers and cells to understand the life of prisoners, including Casanova, who escaped from one of these cells. The guide will share stories about the legends surrounding the 'Prison Palace' and discuss the decisions made by the Council of Ten, a prominent governing body of the Republic of Venice from 1310 to 1797.
After 45 minutes of exploring the history of this old Venetian prison, we'll conclude the tour and bid farewell to our guide.
