On this guided journey to the Mauthausen concentration camp, we will reflect on the tragic occurrences that unfolded within the confines of one of the most significant labor camps established by the Third Reich.

Tour Overview

We will gather at Albertinaplatz at the prearranged hour and depart Vienna, embarking on our day trip to visit the Mauthausen concentration camp.

Our route will provide insights into one of the largest labor camps of the Third Reich, where from 1938 to 1945 around 200,000 individuals from across Europe were detained. Tragically, it’s estimated that nearly half of those imprisoned lost their lives here. Today, Mauthausen serves as a poignant symbol of Austria's somber history.

Following a drive of approximately two hours, we will arrive in Upper Austria and enter Mauthausen. You will receive an audio guide that will allow you to navigate through the various rooms of the camp. Throughout the tour, you will discover not only the historical context but also the experiences of those who lived in the Mauthausen concentration camp prior to its liberation in May 1945.

Your visit includes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to explore at your leisure, visiting sites such as the training yard, barracks, kitchen, the Wiener-Graben quarry, Death Stairs, SS quarters, and the gas chamber.

This period also allows you the opportunity to have lunch independently at the Memorial's bistro. After your exploration, we will commence our journey back and conclude the day at the point of departure approximately eight and a half hours later.
