Follow in the footsteps of the legendary Empress Sissi on this tour of the Hofburg Palace, one of Vienna's most important monuments.
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in the vicinity of the Hofburg Palace, the largest palace in Vienna and the former official residence of the Habsburgs. Here, we'll visit the Sissi Museum, which showcases items that belonged to the empress reflecting her private life.
Elisabeth of Bavaria, born in Munich in 1837, was one of the most influential European monarchs of the late 19th century. After her death in Geneva in 1898, her popularity increased, leading to numerous books, series, and films about her.
A visit to her museum in Hofburg Palace will reveal why she remains so captivating. The exhibition features iconic dresses, jewellery, and portraits of Empress Sissi, including a dressing table, the harp she played, and the bed she slept in.
The permanent exhibition contains over 300 objects, with the original Sissi costumes and dresses being particularly popular. Other notable items include a 63-piece travel kit used by the empress and a reconstruction of the imperial train carriage in which Sissi travelled.
After the museum visit, we'll take a short walk around the grounds of the Hofburg Palace to discover more about Sissi. This activity lasts between 2 hours and 50 minutes, concluding outside the palace.
