Stadttempel Synagogue Tour

At 10 am, we'll meet in front of the Vienna Stadttempel Synagogue to begin a guided tour of the city's main Jewish temple.

We will explore the Stadttempel, also known as the Seitenstettengasse Temple, and discuss the importance of Judaism in Vienna, including its culture, history, and traditions.

Before entering the synagogue, we will view the Holocaust memorial and its wall of names. Then we will enter this historic temple built between 1825 and 1826, located in the Jewish quarter of Vienna, on Seitenstettengasse. The interior features an elliptical space topped with a classical-style dome and is surrounded by a gallery with 12 Ionic columns.

The temple was constructed in a block of apartments and is hidden from view from the street due to Joseph II's Edict of Tolerance, which limited the visibility of non-Catholic worship places.

After one hour of exploring the history of the Stadttempel, we will conclude the tour at the entrance of the synagogue.
