Azores Marine Birdwatching Expedition

We will meet at 8 am at the port in Vila Franca do Campo. At the dock, located on the south of São Miguel Island, there will be a brief introduction to the birds of the Azores. After learning about the main bird species and their migratory patterns, we will embark on a zodiac tour along the coast of São Miguel, home to the largest colonies of birds. Accompanied by a naturalist guide, participants will learn to distinguish notable birds endemic to the Azores.

During the cruise alongside São Miguel, sightings may include sandpipers, shearwaters, egrets, and native species such as buzzards. High-precision binoculars will be provided for enhanced viewing.

The zodiac tour will continue to Vila Franca do Campo Islet, where additional species like wagtails may be observed. Identification techniques for these small birds, known for their seasonal feather color changes, will be shared.

Finally, we will return to the departure pier at 11 am.
