Travel through the history of S?o Miguel Island on this colonisers' tour of Vila Franca do Campo. Discover its main monuments as we explore the prosperous past of the Portuguese Empire.

Description

Join us to explore the history of the Azores. We will meet at the Vila Franca do Campo Marina at the scheduled time for this tour dedicated to the colonisers.

Our first stop will be the Ethnography Museum, featuring pieces from various archaeological digs on São Miguel, emphasizing the oldest traditions on this island.

Next, we will visit Vila Franca do Campo's old town to see key monuments, including the São Miguel Arcanjo Church, São Lázaro Church, António da Silva Cabral Garden, and the site commemorating the D. António Prior do Crato Naval Battle.

We will learn about significant coloniser feats that shaped the rise of the Portuguese Empire in the Atlantic, moving on to the Nossa Senhora da Paz hermitage, which offers stunning panoramic views.

Our final stop will be a pineapple farm to understand the importance of this crop from the late 19th century to now.

We will conclude our journey with a tasting of Queijadas da Vila, a typical sweet from São Miguel. After 3 hours, we will return to the starting point.
