Sail from São Miguel to Vila Franca and enjoy a hiking tour of this tiny volcanic islet in the Azores, where you'll discover incredible bird-watching opportunities.

Vila Franca Islet Tour

We'll meet at the port in Vila Franca do Campo at the indicated time. After an introduction to the wildlife and plants, we'll travel by zodiac to the islet of Vila Franca Nature Reserve, a 10-minute crossing.

Upon arrival at the uninhabited islet, we'll begin a hiking route lasting approximately 1.5 hours, focused on bird watching. The area is known for its diverse bird species, including buzzards, sandpipers, little egrets, and curlews. We may also spot crabs and small fish if sea currents are favorable.

A naturalist guide will accompany us, providing insights on endemic plants and offering views of the south coast of São Miguel from the caldera.

After the hike, we'll return to Vila Franca do Campo, with a total duration of 3 hours.

Summer Tour

From April 15th to October 14th, disembarkation on the islet is not possible. Instead, we will take a 45-minute boat trip around the islet.

Departing from the port of Vila Franca do Campo, enjoy views of the submerged volcano and learn about its geological structure and marine life. A narrative will cover the historical impact of the volcano on Vila Franca do Campo's inhabitants.

After the boat trip, we will return to the Marina.

Bird Watching

The islet of Vila Franca do Campo is one of the best places in the Azores for bird watching. The number and species observed will depend on weather conditions and breeding seasons.
