On this boat trip along the coast of São Miguel, you'll admire whales and dolphins that live in Azorean waters and sail the waters of the famous islet of Vila Franca do Campo.
Whale Watching + Vila Islet Boat Tour
At the agreed time, we'll meet at the port of Vila Franca do Campo. Initially, there will be a brief theoretical introduction to local wildlife, followed by safety guidelines for high seas. Then, we'll board a zodiac boat to attempt to spot whales and dolphins in this area of the Azores.
The Azores are home to a variety of marine wildlife, including blue and humpback whales, and bottlenose dolphins, along with other mammals like sperm whales and pilot whales.
A naturalist guide expert in Azorean wildlife will accompany us, helping to identify different species based on features such as tail size, fin structure, and skin color.
After the whale watching experience, we'll sail to the islet of Vila Franca do Campo to admire its spectacular caldera. Conditions permitting, we may also observe various seabirds like Cory's shearwater and the black-footed tern.
After three hours sailing the Atlantic, we'll return to the departure dock.
Whale Watching
The coast of São Miguel Island is one of the best locations in the Azores to observe whales, dolphins, and other cetaceans. However, animals are unpredictable, and sightings depend on factors like weather conditions and breeding seasons.
