Walking Tour of Vila Viçosa

At the scheduled time, we'll meet on Avenida Duques de Bragança to begin our guided walking tour. We will visit the Pelourinho, a marble pillar marking the entrance of the Castle of Vila Viçosa. The tour will include important monuments such as the historic ramparts, the Church of Our Lady of the Conception, and ancient Roman archaeological finds.

Next, we'll visit the tomb of writer and poet Florbela Espanca and learn about local figures like mathematician Bento Jesus Caraça and painter Henrique Pousão. The 2.5-hour tour continues with visits to the Church of St John the Evangelist and the Convent of Chagas de Cristo. Our next stop will be the Ducal Palace, where we will explore its museum and library while discussing its history as the residence of the Dukes of Bragança, the last royal Portuguese dynasty.

The final part of our tour includes exploring the exterior of the Igreja dos Agostinhos church, before returning to the meeting point on Avenida Duques de Bragança.
