On this tour through the towns of the department of Boyacá, we'll discover the history, culture & typical architecture of this region of Colombia.
Excursion to the Towns of Boyacá
We'll meet at the indicated time on Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva and begin our tour through the towns of Boyacá.
Our first stop will be in Paipa, where a guided tour of the historic center will showcase cobblestone streets and the San Miguel Arcángel Church. We will then visit the Vargas reservoir to see the Monument to the Lancers and discuss the battle between patriot and royalist troops during the independence struggle of New Granada.
Next, we will explore the colonial town of Iza, visiting its historic houses and the Franciscan El Divino Salvador Church, followed by a trip to Tota Lagoon, the largest freshwater reservoir in Colombia. Here, a delicious lunch featuring trout and a drink will be provided. Optional boat rides around the lagoon are available.
We will then continue to Tibasosa, where we will tour the main park, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, and the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, which has vestiges from the 16th century. We will also visit traditional bakeries to learn about the use of feijoa in local gastronomy.
Our final stop will be at Pueblito Boyacense, showcasing replicas of typical houses from the region. Finally, we will return to Villa de Leyva with an approximate arrival time of 13 hours after pickup.
