Visit to the Towns of Boyacá
The journey begins at the scheduled time on Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva, where we will set off to uncover the treasures of the department of Boyacá.
Our initial destination will be Paipa, where we will enjoy a guided exploration of the historic center, discovering its charming cobbled streets and the notable San Miguel Arcángel Church. Following this, we will proceed to the Vargas reservoir, where the Monument to the Lancers stands. Here, we will delve into the significance of the conflict between the patriot and royalist forces during New Granada's fight for independence.
Next, we will advance to the colonial village of Iza, recognized for its architectural heritage and the Franciscan El Divino Salvador Church. After this insightful visit, we will head towards Tota Lagoon, Colombia’s largest freshwater lake. Nestled in this picturesque landscape, participants will savor a delicious trout lunch paired with a refreshing drink. For those interested, there will also be an opportunity for a boat ride around the lagoon.
Our journey continues as we travel to the town of Tibasosa, where we will have a guided tour of the central park, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, and the historic Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, a church with origins dating back to the 16th century. Participants will also have a chance to visit traditional bakeries, gaining insights into the role of feijoa in local culinary practices.
The final stop on our itinerary will be Pueblito Boyacense, an extraordinary site featuring replicas of characteristic houses from various towns in the Boyacá department, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a film set.
Your return trip to Villa de Leyva will commence, with an expected arrival approximately 13 hours after the initial meeting.
