On this tour through the towns of the department of Boyacá, we'll discover the history, culture & typical architecture of this magical region of Colombia.
Excursion to the Towns of Boyacá
We'll meet at 7 am on Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva and embark on a tour through the towns of the department of Boyacá.
Our first stop will be in Paipa, where we'll take a guided tour of the historic center to see its cobblestone streets and the San Miguel Arcángel Church. Afterward, we'll go to the Vargas Swamp to visit the Monument to the Lancers and discuss the battle between patriot and royalist troops during the independence struggle of New Granada.
Next, we'll travel to the municipality of Tibasosa for a guided tour of the main park, the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, and the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, which has vestiges of the 16th century. We'll also visit the traditional bakeries to learn about the use of feijoa in local gastronomy.
Continuing to the colonial town of Iza, we'll admire its historic houses and visit the Franciscan El Divino Salvador Church. After a brief tour, we'll head to Lake Tota, the largest freshwater reservoir in Colombia, where we'll have lunch with trout and a drink. There's an option for a boat ride around the lagoon.
Our last stop will be at Pueblito Boyacense, featuring replicas of typical houses in the department. You'll feel like you're on a movie set!
Finally, we'll return to Villa de Leyva, with an approximate arrival at 8 pm.
