Trekking in Las Cárcavas of Villa de Leyva
Beginning at the time you choose, our meeting point will be located at Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva. From this location, we will set off towards the outskirts of the town, commencing our trek into Las Cárcavas, noted for its striking yellow and brown rock formations.
During the next three hours, we will wander through semi-arid and eroded landscapes that create a stunning contrast with the lush forests nearby. As we progress along the path known as Canal de los Españoles, an ancient route utilized by mules carrying agricultural goods, we will encounter a variety of geological structures.
Our journey will lead us to the viewpoint of Las Cárcavas, located at an elevation of 1600 meters above sea level, where breathtaking panoramas of the rugged terrain await. You will notice some rocks here resemble craters, evoking lunar scenery. Curious about their formation? Listen closely to the story behind these formations! We’ll pause for a moment to capture photographs in this awe-inspiring setting and hear some local legends.
As our experience comes to a close, we will conclude our adventure at the original meeting point.
