Santuario de Iguaque Hiking Tour
At the designated time, we'll meet at Carrera 9 in Villa de Leyva to set off toward the Iguaque Flora and Fauna Sanctuary, part of Colombia's national parks.
Once we arrive, we'll start our hiking route of approximately 27.96 miles (4.5 kilometers). During this 6-hour hike, we'll traverse moorlands populated with local fauna such as squirrels, armadillos, rabbits, and bats. We'll encounter oak trees, pine trees, mosses, lichens, orchids, ferns, and mortiños.
We will also visit the Iguaque Lagoon, a sacred site for the Muisca Indians, home to three species of woodpeckers. We will learn about the legend of the goddess Bachué.
Afterward, we'll ascend to an altitude of 13123 feet (4000 meters) to view the natural site from above. We will then return by minibus to Villa de Leyva, arriving at the meeting point after a total of 8 hours.
