Cucunubá Caves Hiking Tour

This hiking expedition to the Cucunubá Caves takes you through the enchanting landscapes of the Ubaté Valley, located in the heart of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia.

Cucunubá Hiking Journey

Our adventure begins at the designated meeting point in the main park of Ubaté. From here, we will embark on a hiking trail designed to showcase some of the most stunning vistas of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia.

Over the course of this 5 km (3 miles) hike, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich biodiversity of this region in the department of Cundinamarca. Look forward to the chance to observe deer, Andean condors, and various species of eagles. This area is home to roughly 180 unique bird species, so be alert as we may spot a few!

The trail leads us to the remarkable Cucunubá Caves, a revered site for the Muisca people, where aspiring leaders would come to contemplate their lives, converse with elders, and gain mastery over their physical selves. It is truly an extraordinary location!

While navigating through the various chambers of the caves, participants will have the chance to appreciate stunning rock formations and narrow paths filled with endemic plant life, alongside engaging discussions of ancient myths and legends related to the region.

The hiking route allows us to enter one or two caves, depending on the circumstances at that moment. During our 2 to 3 hours exploring the Cucunubá caves, we will uncover various Muisca rock paintings that are over 800 years old.

After our cave exploration, we will offer some leisure time to relax and absorb the beautiful surroundings before returning to the starting point.

Ultimately, we will conclude our journey at the meeting location in Ubaté after an immersive experience lasting between 5 to 6 hours.
