Cucunubá Hiking Expedition
We will convene at 8 am in the central park of Ubaté to initiate our trek. This hiking adventure spans approximately 5 km (3 miles) and is designed to immerse us in the breathtaking sceneries of the Eastern Cordillera.
Throughout our journey, we will delve into the rich biodiversity present in this natural haven of the Cundinamarca department. Keep an eye out for deer, Andean condors, and various eagle species! Interestingly, this region is home to around 180 distinct bird species. Thus, your observant nature might reward you with sightings of these feathered inhabitants!
The trail leads us to remarkable sites such as the enchanting Cucunubá lagoon. As we wander through the unique páramo ecosystem adorned with indigenous flora, tales of intriguing myths and ancestral stories from these lands will accompany us.
Our route culminates at a breathtaking waterfall that graces the lagoon's edge. Historically, this natural resource was vital for the natives’ daily lives. We will also engage in discussions about the significance of wool production in the region, highlighting that Cucunubá is renowned for generating the finest textiles crafted from Creole sheep wool.
By 2 pm, we will return to our starting point in Ubaté, concluding our enriching hiking experience.
