Discover the oldest city in the Americas and try some traditional food on this guided tour of Santo Domingo's most emblematic monuments.

Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel and head west towards Santo Domingo. After driving for around 1 hour and 30 minutes, we'll arrive in the Dominican capital and set off on a guided tour of its most important sights.

To begin, we'll head to the Los Tres Ojos Cave near the famous freshwater lakes. We'll then move on to see the exterior of the Columbus Lighthouse, where the remains of this Genoese navigator are said to lie.

Our next stop will be to check out the façade of the Presidential Palace, which is one of the most iconic buildings in the city. We'll admire its neoclassical architecture before heading inside the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, also known as the Catedral Primada de América. Did you know that it's the oldest cathedral in the continent?

After visiting the cathedral, we'll stroll along Las Damas Street, where we'll see the first house in the New World that was built with stone. We'll also step inside the National Pantheon, where some of the country's most illustrious historic figures have been laid to rest. Next, we'll stroll through the Plaza de España to see its terraces until we get to the Alcázar de Colón. We'll head inside this building and see where this admiral once lived.

We'll also visit a souvenir shop, where we'll see some objects made from Larimar. The Dominican Republic is home to the only mine in the world where this semi-precious stone can be found.

Feeling peckish? You'll then have some free time to eat a delicious buffet lunch with typical dishes such as rice, meat stew and beans. Once you've had some lunch, we'll stroll to the boardwalk to admire a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea. We'll then reconvene and take you back to your hotel, where you should arrive 11.5 hours later.

Hotel Pickup

The tour includes pickup from hotels in Bavaro, Punta Cana, Cap Cana, Úvero Alto, Bayahibe, Dominicus, La Romana, Juan Dolio and Boca Chica.

Please note that pickups are not included in the Playa Nueva Romana area (mainly consisting of the Bahia Principe La Romana and Bouganville hotels). The return will take place at the main gate of the complex.
