In this activity, you'll discover the secrets of Spanish ham and try one of the star products of the Spanish food scene.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet on Paseo Delicias ("Delicias Street") for a visit to a ham drying factory in Villares de la Reina.
Upon arrival, we will proceed to the Experience Room, where we will watch an introduction video to learn about the factory's history and its founder. The main processes involved include cutting, salting, curing, and processing of Iberian ham before it is sold.
We will learn how to differentiate between types of Iberian ham based on the breed of pigs and their diet.
Next, we will don the necessary equipment for a tour of the factory to discover how this fine ham is produced. Salamanca is noted for its foodie tradition, particularly for sausages.
We will return to the Experience Room to participate in a tasting of 100% Iberian acorn-fed ham and a selection of sausages. This will be accompanied by a glass of wine made in the Salamanca mountain range.
After a 2.5-hour visit, we will conclude our experience at the factory's main door.
