Bird Watching in the Mahaica River
At 4:30 am, pickup will be at your hotel in Georgetown. We will depart along the Demerara coast to the Mahaica River.
After an hour-long drive, we will board a boat and cruise upstream at sunrise in search of birds, particularly the Hoatzin.
During the boat ride on the Mahaica River, we will learn what makes the Hoatzin bird unique, including facts about its digestive system and its lineage from the Archaeopteryx.
We will likely spot other species such as the blood-colored woodpecker, white-bellied grosbeak, crab hawk, green-tailed jacamar, and little Cuckoo. Other wildlife, including otters and monkeys, may also be observed.
Throughout the tour, we will explore the flora along the Mahaica River and conclude with a local breakfast at a restaurant nearby. We will begin our return journey to your hotel at 9:30 am, finishing the birding tour at approximately 10:30 am.
