On this tour into the dark, storied past of Guyana, you'll uncover the history of Georgetown's slave trade and enjoy a traditional Guyanese cooking class.

Description

We will pick you up from your hotel at the designated time to embark on a Georgetown tour that explores Guyana's history, particularly its connections to the legacy of slavery. The first stop will be the 1763 Monument, a tribute to the first slave rebellion in Guyana, where we will reflect on the lives of the country's slaves and their motivations.

Next, we will visit the 1823 Rebellion Monument to discuss the role of the Church and abolitionists during the rebellion. We will then proceed to Victoria, the first town in Guyana bought by freed slaves, followed by a stop in the Buxton neighborhood, which was pivotal in the struggle for freedom.

The itinerary includes a visit to the train station that former slaves targeted during a protest against taxes. We will learn about this history from an actual raider and explore the Buxton Amistad Museum for further insights into slavery.

Concluding the tour, we will visit a restaurant for a cooking class where we will prepare traditional dishes like cook-up rice, metemgee with pumpkin dumplings, and congee. The tour ends after 6 hours of cultural and culinary experiences.
