Warwick Castle is one of the oldest, most impressive Medieval fortresses in the United Kingdom. Built in 914, it has a rich history, having been attacked in 1264, besieged in 1642, and damaged by fire in 1871. Despite these events, it remains one of the most well-preserved castles in the country.
Initially used as a military stronghold during the Hundred Years War, it became a country house in the early 17th century under Sir Fulke Greville. It was later owned by the Earls of Warwick until 1978, when it opened to the public.
What to See at Warwick Castle?
The castle offers several attractions, including the Great Hall, the State Rooms, and its walls and towers. Visitors can experience an authentic medieval castle and learn about the lives of its inhabitants. A key highlight is the Trebuchet, the largest medieval siege weapon used to launch projectiles. Guests can also explore the dungeons or navigate the maze, suitable for family enjoyment.
