Miles Canyon Hike

At the designated time, we will meet at the main door of the Sternwheeler Hotel in Whitehorse. A bus will take us along our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles Canyon.

For two hours, we will hike around the volcanic rocks of Miles Canyon and enjoy views of the area filled with forests and trails accentuated by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.

As we traverse the outskirts of Whitehorse, we will learn about the area's history which contributed to the city's development. The gold rush influenced the establishment of Whitehorse and the finish point for paddle-wheel riverboats on the river.

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the gold rush history, we will visit Canyon City, a ghost town recognized as a Yukon government Heritage Site. The Miles Canyon was a significant obstacle for gold rush travelers on the Yukon River in 1898.

We will return to Whitehorse at approximately 4:30 pm.
