Miles Canyon Hike

With this hike around Miles Canyon, you will observe the impressive scenery that the Yukon has to offer and learn about the gold rush stories throughout Whitehorse.

Miles Canyon Hike

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. A bus will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles Canyon.

For three hours, we will hike around the volcanic rocks of the Miles Canyon and enjoy views filled with forests and trails complemented by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.

As we continue through the vast outskirts of Whitehorse, we will learn about the region's history and its development, particularly how the gold rush influenced the establishment of Whitehorse as a finish point for paddle-wheel riverboats navigating the river.

To further appreciate the gold rush history, we will visit Canyon City, a ghost town recognized as a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, the Miles Canyon posed significant challenges for travelers on the Yukon River.

We will return to Whitehorse at approximately 4 pm.
