With this hike around Miles canyon, you will observe the impressive scenery that the Yukon has to offer and learn about the gold rush stories throughout Whitehorse.

Miles Canyon Hike

At the indicated time, we will meet at the Sternwheeler Hotel main door in Whitehorse. We will board a bus that will take us on our hiking route along the Yukon River to explore the area around the Miles canyon.

For three hours, we will hike around the volcanic rocks of Miles Canyon, enjoying the area's views filled with forests and trails highlighted by the turquoise color of the Yukon River.

As we continue through the vast outskirts of Whitehorse, we will learn more about the history and significance of the area that contributed to the city's development. The gold rush in the region significantly influenced the establishment of Whitehorse and served as the endpoint for paddle-wheel riverboats navigating the river.

To further understand the gold rush history, we will visit Canyon City, a ghost town recognized as a Yukon government Heritage Site. During the 1898 gold rush, Miles Canyon was one of the most challenging obstacles for those traveling along the Yukon River.

We will return to Whitehorse at approximately 4 pm.
