Beatrix Potter Lake District Tour
At 9:05 am, we'll meet at Windermere train station and board a minibus to Wray Castle, located 20 minutes away.
At this fortress, protected by the National Trust, we'll learn about the connections between writer Beatrix Potter and the Lake District. She spent her 16th birthday here and developed a passion for the mountains and lakes of this largest national park in Great Britain.
After admiring the exterior of this 19th-century neo-Gothic castle, we'll return to the minibus and head to the village of Near Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter got married.
We'll stroll through Near Sawrey, recognizing locations featured in Potter's illustrations, such as the Tower Bank Arms and Hill Top, the house purchased with proceeds from her early works.
Next, we will visit Esthwaite Water, a lesser-known spring in the Lake District National Park, described by Beatrix Potter as "ultra-romantic." Nearby is the village of Hawkshead, where she met her husband, William Heelis.
The tour will conclude by exploring areas where the writer acquired land and farms, including Tarn Hows, Coniston Water, and Yewdale Valley. We will also uncover some set locations from the film Miss Potter.
We will finish the tour at 1:05 pm, returning to the starting point.
