Brontë Sisters Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at Station Precinct and leave Windermere to enter Brontë Country, the area where the literary figures grew up and drew inspiration. First, we'll tour the Lake District National Park, stopping in the village of Cowan Bridge, where the Brontë sisters lived at the Clergy Daughter's School.
Next, we'll trace Charlotte Brontë's steps through Lancashire to the village of Wycoller, the inspiration for Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre. We'll explore the rustic village atmosphere, its bridges, and Gothic and Romanesque ruins.
Following this, we'll visit Ponden Hall, which inspired Emily Brontë's Thrushcross Grange. The location has sparked debate regarding its resemblance to the settings in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
Our next destination is Haworth, where we'll see the parsonage where the Brontë family lived. We'll visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, which contains the largest collection of the sisters' personal belongings.
Finally, we'll visit the family cemetery, the Black Bull Inn, and the church where their father served. The tour concludes with a return to Windermere at 5:30 pm.
