Brontë Sisters Tour
We'll meet at 9 am at Station Precinct and depart Windermere to explore Brontë Country, where the Brontë sisters drew inspiration. The tour involves visiting the Lake District National Park, known for its natural beauty and its influence on the works of Emily, Charlotte, and Anne Brontë.
Our first stop will be in the village of Cowan Bridge, where the Brontë sisters attended the Clergy Daughter's School. Next, we will travel through Lancashire to Wycoller, the model for Ferndean Manor from Jane Eyre, where we will explore the village’s bridges and Gothic and Romanesque ruins.
Following this, we will visit Ponden Hall, the inspiration for Thrushcross Grange in Wuthering Heights, and engage in the discussion regarding its true resemblance to locations depicted in the sisters' works.
We will then proceed to Haworth, visiting the Brontë Parsonage Museum, which displays the largest collection of the sisters' personal items. Our final stops will include the family cemetery, the Black Bull Inn, and the church where their father served as parson.
The tour concludes with our return to Windermere at 5:30 pm.
