Why visit the Terracotta Army?
The Terracotta Army is considered the 8th wonder of the world and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This site consists of more than 7000 real-size soldiers, horses, and carriages with a rich history. They were discovered by local farmers searching for water near Xian.
The museum features 3 pits filled with the funerary art of the emperor Qin Shi Huang, who is said to have commissioned these pieces at the age of 13 in 221 B.C. Visitors can observe some of the statues outside the pits and explore the enamel decoration in different colours and the meanings of the symbols on the warrior's clothing, as well as restoration techniques used on these ancient artifacts.
Opening Times
The Terracotta Army Museum opens from Monday to Sunday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Last entry is one hour before closure.
