Can you imagine walking through steam in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, where the water reaches temperatures close to boiling point? On this day trip to the boiling river of Mayantuyacu, we'll experience the Shanay Timpishka, a sacred site for indigenous communities and a scientific phenomenon.
Tour Details
Between 6 am and 7 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Pucallpa and drive to Honoria. After a 2.5-hour minibus ride, we'll board a boat to reach a trail leading to the boiling river of Mayantuyacu.
Upon arrival, we'll disembark and begin an hour-long hike to enjoy the beauty of the lush Peruvian jungle until we reach our destination. Along the route, we will encounter several sanctuaries promoting ancestral Amazonian medicine.
At the river, we will observe the rising vapours and discuss the various theories regarding the origin of these warm waters, which remain a mystery to science.
As we admire the bubbling waters, we'll explore the mythological stories of indigenous communities, such as the Ashaninka people. For them, this river, known as Shanay Timpishka, was formed by an enormous serpent called Yacumama.
You'll have 3 hours of free time to have lunch and enjoy this unique location. We recommend bringing food for the excursion.
The excursion concludes at 6 pm, when we will return you to your hotel.
