This day trip to the boiling river of Mayantuyacu offers a singular experience, as we uncover the intriguing Shanay Timpishka, a revered site for local indigenous populations and a natural marvel that continues to intrigue scientists.
Tour Overview
Starting between 6 am and 7 am, we will collect you from your hotel in Pucallpa and set out towards Honoria. After a journey of approximately 2.5 hours in a minibus, we will board a boat that will transport us to a trail leading directly to the boiling river of Mayantuyacu.
Upon arrival, we will disembark and begin an hour-long hike that allows us to appreciate the stunning scenery of the verdant Peruvian jungle as we approach the boiling river of Mayantuyacu. During the trek, we will encounter various sanctuaries dedicated to ancestral Amazonian medicine.
Once we reach our destination, we will witness the mesmerizing steam rising from the river. We will explore various theories regarding the origin of these warm waters, which remain enigmatic to modern science.
While we marvel at the boiling waters, we will delve into the mythical narratives from indigenous groups like the Ashaninka, who refer to this river as Shanay Timpishka, believed to be formed by a massive serpent known as Yacumama.
You will have 3 hours of leisure time to savor a meal and fully immerse yourself in this extraordinary location. We suggest bringing along a packed lunch for your day out.
The excursion will conclude around 6 pm, at which point we will return you to your hotel.
