Yellowknife Ice Road Trip
At 2 pm, we will pick you up from your hotel in Yellowknife and head to the shores of the Great Slave Lake. In winter, this large body of water freezes, allowing for the creation of the Ice Road.
During the trip, we will walk, drive, and lie down on this winter track, which only exists between December and April. You will see traditional boat-houses along the Great Slave Lake and learn about the customs of the local inhabitants.
Next, we visit the snow castle, a fortress built on the Ice Road, which remains during winter and is constructed in a different style each year. You can take a picture with its walls and battlements as a souvenir.
The Ice Road connects Yellowknife with the First Nations community of Dettah, where we will learn about the ancestry of this local culture.
We will return over the Great Slave Lake on the Ice Road, arriving at your hotel by 3:30 p.m.
The snow castle
The snow castle is open only during March. If your tour occurs before March, you will see the castle being constructed.
