If you have a passion for wildlife, this whale-watching tour in Isafjordur, Iceland, offers an ideal opportunity to immerse yourself in nature. Spend 2.5 hours observing whales and diverse wildlife in the stunning surroundings of an Icelandic fjord.

Description

Your adventure begins at the designated meeting point at Borea Adventures Gear Storage, located in Isafjordur. Here, we will board the well-equipped vessel named Síf and set sail onto the Isafjordur fjord.

As we navigate the serene, icy waters of the fjord, you will be able to look out for the distinctive blows of whales in the distance. Our skilled captain will strive to maneuver the boat as close as possible to these magnificent creatures while ensuring their comfort. Given the rich biodiversity of the fjord, we may encounter humpback whales and minke whales, which often showcase their tails before diving. It's a remarkable sight! If fortune favors us, we might also catch a glimpse of the elusive killer whales (orcas) that occasionally visit the area.

Along with the whales, the tour provides a chance to see dolphins and porpoises, and watch the graceful puffin. These iconic seabirds nest on the islands of Aedey and Vigur and can often be seen frolicking in the nearby waters. Throughout the journey, the crew will share intriguing insights about the local flora and fauna.

In addition to being a sightseeing adventure, these trips also serve a research purpose. We encourage participants to capture photos of whale flukes (tails) to aid in identification, allowing you to feel like a whale expert by the conclusion of the tour!

After spending between 1.5 and 3.5 hours aboard the Síf, we will conclude this memorable experience on the Isafjordur fjord.

Whale Watching

Animals are unpredictable. The visibility of whales can fluctuate based on several elements such as sea currents, wind, and current weather conditions. Arctic weather is known for its rapid changes, which can directly affect animal behavior.

Please be aware that the overall duration of the tour may vary depending on the weather and the time required to locate the whales. Regardless, the activity will always be conducted with the utmost respect, ensuring that the natural habitat of these creatures remains undisturbed.
