Clifford's Tower Ticket
A visit to Clifford's Tower will take you on a journey back in time. Built during the reign of King Henry III, this site has served as both a royal mint and a medieval fortress. It is the largest surviving part of York Castle.
Throughout the 14th and 15th centuries, the tower was utilized as a treasury, prison, and seat of royal power. In 1684, the tower was reduced to ashes during a fire that consumed much of the castle. It was rebuilt soon after and later functioned as a new prison and court in the 18th and 19th centuries, making it the main surviving element of York Castle.
Today, visitors can access the roof deck of Clifford's Tower, providing views of the historic centre of York, including its medieval buildings and the Cathedral.
