Moors, Whitby & The Yorkshire Steam Railway Day Trip
We will meet opposite the Dean Court Hotel at 9 am in York and start the trip through Strensall, Sheriff Hutton, and Hovingham.
The first stop is Hutton-le-Hole to see traditional stone houses and the village common. We will then drive over the North York Moors to Blakey Ridge, the highest point, and Ralph's Cross before reaching Whitby. A guide will share the town's history and points of interest upon arrival.
You will have 2 hours 30 minutes to explore Whitby, with attractions including the Endeavour Experience, Captain Cook Museum, Bark Endeavour, and Whitby Abbey. Fish and chips at the Magpie Café is also recommended. Alternative drop-offs in Whitby are available at the Harbour or the Abbey.
Optionally, you can experience the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The train departs Whitby at 2 pm for a 45-minute journey around Grosmont and Goathland, recognizable as Hogsmeade Station from the wizarding world. This option must be paid on the day of the activity.
If you choose not to take the train, the bus will take us to Goathland, where we will learn about fictional locations from a popular British TV show.
The tour will continue to Snod Hill for information on the RAF Fylingdales Pyramid and the Hole of Horcum. On our return to York, views of the Howardian Hills and Howard Castle will be visible.
The tour concludes back at the meeting point in York at 5:15 pm.
