On this hiking tour around Etna and the Bove Valley, we'll follow the Schiena dell'Asino trekking route, one of the easiest trekking routes in this natural park.

Bove Valley + Mount Etna Hiking Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Schiena dell'Asino car park to start the hiking route along Etna and the Bove Valley.

The hike will ascend from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters) via the Schiena dell'Asino trail. Along the trail, we will encounter pine forests, ancient solidified lava flows, and enjoy views of the Sicilian coast and the Ionian Sea.

During the hike, the guide will explain the formation of Etna, its caves, and the historical changes to its landscapes, along with its connection to the culture and way of life in Sicily.

Upon reaching the end of the trail, we'll admire the Bove Valley, an extensive depression of more than 5 miles (8 kilometers) located on the eastern side of Etna. Its volcanic sand offers a desert-like beauty.

After taking in the panoramic views of Etna, we'll begin our descent along the Espalda del Burro, observing Bove Valley from another perspective and passing near a black sand channel and a volcanic cave.

The trekking route will take a total of 3 to 4 hours, concluding back at the starting point.
