Our journey begins promptly at the Schiena dell'Asino car park, setting the stage for a memorable hike that explores the captivating scenery of Etna and the Bove Valley.

This trek will elevate us from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters), following the Schiena dell'Asino path, celebrated for its stunning views within the Etna Natural Park. The name, which translates to Path of the Donkey's Back, reflects a unique rock formation visible on our journey.

As we make our way through dense pine forests, ancient lava flows will unfold before us, alongside breathtaking vistas of the Sicilian coastline and the expansive Ionian Sea.

During the hike, our knowledgeable guide will provide insights into the formation of Etna and its captivating caves, alongside a discussion of the evolving landscapes throughout history. We'll explore the deep connections of this mighty volcano with the Sicilian culture and lifestyle.

Upon reaching the trail's culmination, we'll gaze upon the Bove Valley, an impressive depression stretching over 5 miles (8 kilometers) located on the eastern flank of Etna. The landscape's volcanic sand creates a stark resemblance to a desert, often likened to a lunar environment!

After soaking in the breathtaking panoramas that Etna unveils, we’ll begin our descent along the Espalda del Burro, which provides a fresh perspective on the Bove Valley. Along the way, we'll approach a significant black sand channel and view a volcanic cave.

The entire trekking experience will last approximately 3 to 4 hours, concluding back at our starting point.
