On this hiking tour around Etna and the Bove Valley, we'll follow the Schiena dell'Asino trekking route, one of the easiest trekking routes in this natural park.

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Schiena dell'Asino car park to begin the hiking route along Etna and the Bove Valley.

The hike will ascend from 5906 to 6463 feet (1800 to 1970 meters) following the Schiena dell'Asino trail. The name relates to a rock formation we will encounter during the route.

Along the way, we'll pass pine forests and ancient solidified lava flows, while enjoying views of the Sicilian coast and the Ionian Sea.

The guide will explain the formation of Etna and its caves, as well as the connections between the volcano and the culture and way of life in Sicily.

Upon reaching the end of the trail, we'll admire the Bove Valley, an extensive depression of more than 5 miles (8 kilometers) long on the eastern side of Etna, known for its volcanic sand that resembles a lunar landscape.

After enjoying the panoramic views, we'll start our descent along the Espalda del Burro, seeing the Bove Valley from a different perspective. We will also pass by a large black sand channel and view a volcanic cave.

The trekking route will last a total of 3 or 4 hours, returning to the starting point.
