Did you know that Nakupenda means "I love you"? Discover how this beach received its name and see giant tortoises on Prison Island.

Changuu Island and Nakupenda Beach Trip

Pickup will be arranged from your Zanzibar hotel at the specified time to head to the city harbour, where a boat awaits. The sail to Prison Island will take approximately 20 minutes across the Indian Ocean.

Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island, was historically used as a prison for slaves and a quarantine center for yellow fever. The tour will include a visit to its notable attraction, the giant tortoises, imported from Seychelles in the late 19th century. Following this, there will be an opportunity for snorkeling to explore the local marine life, as the island was previously a coral mine.

Afterward, the boat will take you to Nakupenda Beach, where there will be time to relax in the sun or swim in the turquoise waters. A lunch featuring fish and tropical fruits will also be provided.

The tour concludes with a return trip to your hotel, lasting a total of 8 hours.
