Let yourselves be captivated by rural Switzerland on this day trip to the village of Appenzell. We'll visit a traditional cheese factory and ascend Hoher Kasten via cable car.
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll depart from the Sihlquai Bus Station parking lot in Zurich towards northeastern Switzerland.
During our bus ride, we'll drive along Lake Zurich and pass by Rapperswil Castle. The journey continues to the hills of Appenzell, where we will visit a traditional farm and have the opportunity to try a glass of fresh milk from its cows.
The next stop is the Appenzeller cheese factory, where we’ll see how raw milk is transformed into Switzerland's most aromatic cheese. We will also visit the warehouse that holds up to 12,500 wheels of cheese, followed by a cheese tasting.
Following the cheese factory visit, we will take the cable car up Hoher Kasten Mountain, reaching a height of 1,794 metres (5,885 feet). The summit offers scenic views of the Alpstein massif, the Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, and the Principality of Liechtenstein, with sights of Germany and Austria. At the peak, there is a revolving restaurant available for lunch.
After lunch, we will return via cable car to the village of Appenzell for a guided tour, discovering the wooden facades of the houses. You'll have half an hour of free time to explore before we begin our journey back to Zurich.
This 11-hour day trip concludes at the starting point in Zurich.
