Day Trip to Appenzell and Hoher Kasten

Let yourselves be captivated by rural Switzerland on this day trip to the village of Appenzell. We'll visit a traditional cheese factory and ascend Hoher Kasten by cable car.

Day Trip Details

We will depart from the Sihlquai Bus Station parking lot in Zurich towards the northeastern region of Switzerland. During our bus ride, we will pass by Lake Zurich and Rapperswil Castle. The journey continues to the hills of Appenzell, where we will visit a traditional farm to sample a glass of fresh milk.

The next stop will be the Appenzeller cheese factory, where we'll observe the process of turning raw milk into Switzerland's most aromatic cheese. A visit to the warehouse, which holds up to 12,500 wheels of cheese, will be included, alongside a cheese tasting.

After the cheese factory, we will take the cable car to Hoher Kasten Mountain, where the summit is at 1794 metres (5885 feet). From the top, enjoy scenic views of the Alpstein massif, Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, and the Principality of Liechtenstein. There is a revolving restaurant for lunch options.

Post-lunch, we will descend by cable car to the picturesque village of Appenzell for a guided tour of the houses' wooden facades and a visit to a chocolate boutique for a chocolate tasting.

You will have 30 minutes of free time in the village before we start our journey back to Zurich, concluding the 11-hour day trip with a bag of Swiss products as a farewell.
