Lucerne & Mount Rigi Day Trip

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Sihlquai Bus Station parking lot. We'll hop on a comfortable bus and set off from Zürich towards the small town of Weggis, where we'll see incredible views of Lake Lucerne.

We'll start seeing Mount Rigi from the lake, an Alpine mountain massif that stands at 5,900 feet (1,800 meters) high. You'll have 4 hours of free time, plus your cable car and rack railway tickets, to climb to the top. This mountain railway began operating in 1871.

As you stand atop Mount Rigi, you'll see views of Central Switzerland's lakes and find a number of mountain restaurants for meals.

We'll descend Rigi on another rack railway train to Vitznau. From there, you'll board a boat for a 4-hour boat ride on Lake Lucerne. Enjoy views of the surrounding Alpine mountains during this trip.

The boat ride will end in Lucerne, where you'll have free time to explore its historic center and admire the façades of its main monuments, including the Baroque Jesuit church, the Town Hall, and the famous Chapel Bridge from the 14th century.

Afterwards, we'll return by bus, completing our trip after 9.5 hours.

Changes to the Itinerary

Due to maintenance work or celebrations, the route may be modified. The cable car on Mount Rigi may be closed during these events, replaced by the cog railway.

The Mount Rigi cable car will be replaced by the cog railway on the following dates:

March 10 to April 4, 2025November 17 to 21, 2025November 24 to 28, 2025March 9 to 31, 2026

Guides on the Tour

This tour is partially guided, meaning the guide will accompany you from Zurich to Lucerne and from Lucerne to Zurich. During your time in Lucerne, you won't have a guide, but information will be provided for you to enjoy the city at your own pace.
