Day Trip to Mount Rigi and Lucerne

At the scheduled time, we will gather at the Sihlquai Bus Station parking lot. From here, a comfortable bus ride will take us from Zürich to the charming town of Weggis, where you will be greeted by spectacular vistas of Lake Lucerne.

As we approach the lake, the majestic Mount Rigi will come into view. This formidable Alpine massif reaches an elevation of 5,900 feet (1,800 meters). You will have the leisure of 4 hours, including your cable car and cog railway tickets, to ascend to the summit. Notably, this mountain railway was the pioneer of its kind in Europe upon its inauguration in 1871.

Once at the summit of Mount Rigi, you will be treated to stunning panoramas of the lakes scattered across Central Switzerland. In addition, there are several mountain restaurants where you can indulge in a meal.

Our descent will take place via a different rack railway that will lead us to Vitznau. Here, you will board a boat for a 4-hour leisurely ride on Lake Lucerne. Throughout this boat adventure on the glacial spring waters, you will be captivated by the breathtaking views of the surrounding Alpine landscape.

The boat ride concludes in Lucerne, where you will have time to explore the historic center. Take a leisurely stroll through this scenic city’s medieval streets and admire the elegant façades of notable landmarks such as the Baroque Jesuit church, the Town Hall, and the iconic Chapel Bridge, which dates back to the 14th century.

Following your exploration, we will return by bus, concluding our day trip after approximately 9.5 hours back at the original meeting point.

Possible Itinerary Adjustments

Please be aware that due to necessary maintenance or special events, the schedule may be subject to change. On occasions, the cable car service on Mount Rigi may not be operational and will be substituted by the cog railway.
