Mount Pilatus Day Trip

Explore the spectacular Swiss Alps on this day trip to Mount Pilatus from Zurich. Hike to the peak, travel on the world's steepest cogwheel train and ride a panoramic cable car for unparalleled views over the mountains.

Day Trip Details

We'll leave the Sihlquai Bus Terminal parking lot at the designated time. You'll set off by bus towards Lucerne, crossing the Albis Pass and driving along the banks of the Lake of the Four Cantons. During the journey, photo opportunities of the Alpine landscapes will be available. In Lucerne, your guide will provide insights on key attractions such as the Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit Church. You will have free time to explore the Old Town.

Afterwards, you'll proceed to Kriens for a cable car ride with views of the forests as you travel to Fräkmüntegg. There, you’ll board the Dragon Ride aerial cableway, offering panoramic views of the Swiss Alps.

At the summit of Mount Pilatus (2,131 metres), you can choose between walking down the Dragon Trail or hiking to the summit. Free time for lunch at restaurants on Mount Pilatus will also be available. After exploring, you will descend to Alpnachstad via the cogwheel train before concluding with a boat cruise on the Lake of the Four Cantons.

Finally, you will return to your original meeting point in Zurich after a total of 9.5 hours.

Itinerary Adjustments

The itinerary will experience adjustments during the following dates:

Dragon Ride cable car: Open throughout the year, except between October 20 and November 7, 2025, due to maintenance. Ascent and descent will be via the cogwheel train.Boat trip: Available between May 12 and November 2025. It will be replaced with a food ticket between October 20 and November 14, 2025.
