Immerse yourself in over 5,000 years of rich history with this complimentary tour of Aachen, a city that served as the capital of Charlemagne's empire and is home to the oldest cathedral in Northern Europe.
Tour Overview
We'll convene at Marktplatz, the vibrant center of Aachen, where our exploration will begin, leading us through the key landmarks associated with the legacy of Charlemagne.
Our first stop will be the impressive Town Hall, a stunning Gothic structure constructed between 1353 and 1414 atop the remains of a former palace. This building has served as a pivotal venue for political and social gatherings throughout the city's history.
The journey continues as we head to the magnificent Aachen Cathedral, which has been standing since the commencement of its construction in 787. It holds the distinction of being the first World Heritage Site in Germany and the oldest cathedral in the northern regions of Europe.
As we proceed, we will take a moment to admire Aachen's various fountains, including the elegant Elissenbrunnen, established in the 18th century, and the whimsical Puppenbrunnen, noted for its unique bronze puppet design.
Next, we'll have the chance to appreciate one of the city's most emblematic sculptures, the Klenkes. This artwork captures a familiar gesture that connects the people of Aachen through the iconic little finger raised on the right hand.
Our tour will culminate at the Money Fountain, marking the end of our 1 hour and 45 minutes of exploration in Aachen.
