Aberdeenshire Coastal Towns Tour
On this tour of the coastal towns of Aberdeenshire, we will explore the fishing villages of northeast Scotland. We will gather in front of the statue of William Wallace at the designated time.
The first destinations are the villages of Gardenstown and Crovie, located on red sandstone cliffs. While driving through these towns, we will enjoy views of the Scottish countryside and learn about their history.
Next is Pennan, a fishing village with roots in the 18th century and known as the setting for the film Local Hero. Nearby is New Aberdour beach, with caves that were once smuggling hideouts, revealing stories of clandestine activities along Aberdeenshire's coastline.
We will then visit Fraserburgh, notable for having one of Scotland's earliest lighthouses and a historical castle. Here, we will walk through the town, observing its architecture and the bustling seafood port.
Our journey continues to Cruden Bay, where we will explore the ruins of New Slains Castle, dating back to the 16th century, offering insights into the area's history.
Finally, we will visit the port of Collieston, where we will share the legend of the smuggler Phillip Kennedy. After an enriching eight-hour tour, we will return to our starting point in Aberdeen.
