Visit the Vatican of the South on this private tour of Acireale, walking among its many baroque-style churches and enjoying the wild coastline.
Description
We'll meet at the Piazza Duomo to get our private tour of Acireale underway. Our first stop will be the Maria Santissima Annunziata Cathedral, one of the town's numerous cathedrals that give it the name "the Vatican of the South".
Entering the Duomo de Acireale, we'll see frescoes decorating its columns and ceilings. As we exit, we'll observe two of the church's bell towers and the neighboring Palazzo Comunale.
As we travel through this town, located at the feet of Mt. Etna, we'll pass by the Museo Opera dei Pupi, dedicated to the Sicilian tradition of marionette theater. Strolling the streets, we'll reach the Basilica of San Sebastiano, notable for its facade with ornate biblical decor.
Walking along Acireale's alleyways, we'll notice the classic pastry shops and their ricotta-filled cannolis, offering a chance to stop for a treat.
Continuing, we will glimpse the exterior of the Pinacoteca de Zelantea, which houses important historical pieces, including fossils and artworks from Guercino and Van Dyke.
We will conclude our tour at the wild and volcanic coastline, viewing the Sant'Anna Lighthouse and Timpa Natural Park beaches, wrapping up the experience after approximately two hours.
