Visit the Vatican of the South on this private tour of Acireale, where you'll walk among its many baroque-style churches and enjoy the wild coastline.
Description
We'll meet at the Piazza Duomo to start our private tour of Acireale. Our first stop is the Maria Santissima Annunziata Cathedral, known as part of the reason this town is called "the Vatican of the South".
Entering the Duomo de Acireale, we'll see its frescoes. Upon exiting, we'll view two bell towers and the adjacent Palazzo Comunale.
As we explore this town, located at the foot of Mt. Etna, we'll visit the Museo Opera dei Pupi, showcasing the Sicilian tradition of marionette theater. We will then go to the Basilica of San Sebastiano, featuring a detailed facade.
While walking through Acireale, we will pass classic pastry shops known for their sweet aromas. We will have the chance to sample local sweets such as ricotta-filled cannolis.
Next, we'll view the exterior of the Pinacoteca de Zelantea, which contains historical artifacts, including fossils, ancient coins, and artworks by Guercino and Van Dyke.
We will conclude our tour at the scenic coastline, where we can see the Sant'Anna Lighthouse and the Timpa Natural Park beaches, wrapping up the adventure after about two hours.
