Sanguinaires Islands Boat Cruise
- 3 Stunden
No trip to Corsica is complete without visiting the beautiful Sanguinaires Islands. With this cruise, you will sail along the coast from Ajaccio and be mesmerized by the famous red tones of the rocks.
Sanguinaires Islands Boat Cruise
The tour departs from Ajaccio, heading towards the Sanguinaires Islands. The route goes west along the Corsican coast, passing the house of Tino Rossi, a notable French actor and singer from the region. The capital's port is named in his honor.
On the route, you will see the ‘Chapel of the Greeks,’ built by refugees from the Greek settlement of Paomia in the 18th century before they moved north.
The primary destination is the Sanguinaires Islands. From the boat, you will view the notable tower of Parata, a Genoese turret established in 1608. The islands are renowned for their reddish-toned rocks, attributed to the prevalent jasper rock.
A stop will be made on the main island of Mezumare for 1 hour, allowing time for swimming or a walk to the Alphonse Duadet lighthouse at the summit. In Mezumare, also referred to as the ‘Grand Sanguinaire,’ you can explore the ruins of a ‘lazarreto,’ once used as a quarantine station, now inhabited by various bird species.
After around 3 hours, we will return to the port of Ajaccio to conclude the trip.
